The Secret: Truth or Hype?
(Warning: This is just my opinion regarding a topic that is important to me so I apologize in advance if it offends anyone, as that is not the intention.)
There has been a lot of talk lately about The Secret since Oprah featured it recently on her show. While some of the talk is supportive of the message contained in the movie and some is of disbelief and hype, I am personally glad that people are talking regardless of what is being said.
I will admit that I found The Secret to have placed a bit more of a materialistic slant on The Law of Attraction
however, it got people thinking. In my humble opinion, it is never a bad thing when people consider or debate the ways to improve life on an individual level and/or a global level.
My dear friends, the bottom line is this...The Law of Attraction has been around FOREVER. We have all experienced it...maybe some more frequently than others. Regardless of the wrapper it is placed in, regardless of how the message is dressed, one thing is clear... focusing on the positive rather than the negative a) makes you feel good and b) supports you in taking positive action.
(Positive thoughts + positive feelings/empowering feelings + positive actions = forward movement/results)
With that I will get off my soapbox (before I fall off and break an ankle) and leave you with this to ponder...if there is an area of your life that is not as you would like it to be, what would happen if you focused on the positives embodied in that area rather than the negatives?
Until next time, please be well and keep talking...

I think The Secret focuses on financial stuff because that's where a lot of people want improvement. We know that life requires balance and harmony, but lack in the financial segment is where many people are focused and really is the target market of the movie. It's so amazing to me that some people can deny so emphatically something they could plainly see if they were only to open their eyes!

Hi Steve!Thank you so much for sharing your very valid viewpoint. I could not agree more that The Secret focused on the financial because that is a key focus for many. The producers of The Secret (I am guessing here) probably knew that the financial focus would get people to sit up and take notice.
My one hope is that while people were taking notice, that they listened to the underlying message. That message is a good one for certain.
I am curious when you say "some people can deny" who are those some people? Nay-sayers of The Law of Attraction?
Steve, thank you again for sharing!!
Please take care...

Pam,Very well said. I agree, no matter what side of the fence you are on, "The Secret" has generated awareness, which is always positve. What I would say to the people who think that the Law of Attraction is a bunch of bunk, is simply, "just because you don't believe, dosn't mean it's not true".
The law of attraction happens all of the time regardless of your personal belief system. I could say I don't believe in the law of gravity, that won't stop and egg from falling to the floor if I let it go.

Mark, thank you so much and thank you for sharing your thoughts. :) I really appreciate it and I liked your analogy. For me, regardless of if people believe in the LOA, isn't it much better to think of the positives in every situation, rather than the negatives? ;)
Mark, thank you again!!
Please be well...

I agree. I saw The Secret on Oprah, got the book, read it, and then went straight out to get the Audiobook of the The Law of Attraction. I found that resource to be much clearer and more focused on things other than material items in life. It really is the same teachings most of us got from our grandmothers and other elders, though. No big secret. We're just too lazy to remember these teachings sometime.Posted by Jenny on 09/03/2007
Jenny, thank you for sharing their thoughts. They are greatly appreciated. You are right, this is not a secret. Thinking positively, believing that you can make things happen, and then taking action is a message that has been around forever.Thank you again, Jenny!!
Be well...
