Go Big or Go Home Question: Living Deeply

Just yesterday I received this awesome question in a that I subscribe to;

“What if we shifted our focus from achieving more to simply living more deeply?” -

What does it mean to you to live more deeply? What would a life lived deeply look like?

I look forward to your thoughts. (To read my response to this question, please .)

What a strong question. To live more deeply I think a person has to become free of ego. By this I mean one has to be able to stop worrying about what others think. This is a huge adjustment and one that I have not been able to fully accomplish. People can often say that they do not care what other people think. However, I believe that human nature does dictate that we want to be liked, accepted, and some levels admired. I think that is why we often settle for jobs that we are less than thrilled with. The job pays well and allows us to feed our egos by living at a higher standard, but not necessarily the job that makes us the most happy. Many times we are not living as deeply as we might because of the responsibilities we acquire through life. It was once the pursuitof the job, the title, the money, etc... that I thought that made me happy. As Igrow alittle older and moreeducated by life I am learning tolive more deeply involves more than my ego, job,or title. It is the simplest of things. It is the fatherson moments. Cheering at an exciting game with my kids. Watching my wife read her book at bedtime. My dog sitting at my feet as I watch the sunset. I think it is realizing the little things are what makes for lifes richest moments. To melearning to live more deeply means learning to pay attention to the little details. The quiet moments that come and go in flash. It is not always the big achievements. It is most often what we do at times that seem most nsignificant that determine the depth of our lives.

Rocky, kudos, my friend..I think your definition of living deeply for you is AWESOME!! It is the little things, it is paying more attention to those than to what the Joneses have or what someone is saying and thinking about us. The bottom line is (IMHO); if we can look ourselves in the eye, feel good about who we are and what we have to offer, take each day one wonderful moment at a time, we are more apt to catch all the little glorious things that make life so rich. Thank you, Rocky for sharing your amazing insight! Oh, and remember, it really is none of our business what others think of us. It is our business what we think of ourselves. ;)

Isn't it funny where the universe takes us? This is the exact issue I'm struggling with in my life right now. Through a series of seeming setbacks, I'm finding myself struggling to reach for what is joyful and peaceful in my life. Just this morning, I started adding 3 small habits to my day to bring myself more in alignment with where I'd like my life to go. I know I need to let go of my ego, and get out of my head, and remain true to my deeper self, and not the self that other people want or need to me to be.

Pam, I will carry your last line around with me. What I think of myself is, truly, my only business.

Thanks!

Joan, bless your heart. You are so welcome -- thank you for sharing. Kudos to you for your commitment and for the action you are taking. If I may, when ego starts to appear (which is natural) look to your heart. Your heart will never ever steer you wrong. :)
